A Big Week of Firsts 3-22-06

A Big Week of FIRSTS

This was a big week of firsts for Landon. On Saturday we took him to his FIRST movie...Curious George. He was already really into Monkey George (as he calls him) bc he has quite a few Curious George books and daddy reads him his favorite one (Monkey Pancake...as Landon calls it) EVERY night. Landon loves pancakes (which he usually requests his daddy to make on Saturdays bc dada, unfortunately, does make better pancakes than mama!). So it is really special to him for Dada to read the pancake book. Anyway, daddy was gracious enough to include mama in the movie experience (originally it was going to be just a boy thing ). Landon loved the theater and although he was a little unsure when we walked into the dark theater, he ended up really enjoying the movie and actually sat through it ! His favorite part was when George went flying through the air with the balloons...oh yes, and his own popcorn bag. He still talks about that! So Saturday was a really special day for Landon because he got to see a Monkey George movie and have chicken nuggets...and dada made pancakes for breakfast...wow! That is some daddy!

Two other FIRSTS this week happened on the same day...Monday! I decided to chance the whole pooping on the floor thing...I knew Landon had to go so I took off his diaper and put him on the toilet. He didn't go. About a half hour later he TOLD me he had to go, so off we went...and he POOPED ON THE TOILET. This was no small milestone...we danced and sang and celebrated wildly...oh yes, and stared at it for way too much time, and then waved bye bye to it as we flushed the toilet. Kids...they are in awe about the strangest thing! So I think we have conquered the fear of pooping on the toilet..bc he did it again today! Also on Monday, Landon ate an entire portion of corn! Big deal, you may think, but I have tried for about a year and a half now to get vegetables into this kid...I have hidden them in everything imaginable, and it never worked. But, now, out of the blue...he is ready to eat them. It was a great day!

On a more serious note, I am reading this great book called the Ragamuffin Gospel. I don't know about you all, but I get terribly distraught over my inconsistency. It gets to the point where I would almost rather stay in a valley becuase I don't want want to ride the roller coaster any longer. I also really struggle with not feeling worthy of God's blessings in our lives. Although I hate to admit it, I am realizing that while I say that Christianity is all about God's grace, I think as though it is all about my works..what I do and do not do. I would never say that I think God takes a tally of my life, but I find that I think that way. This book is really helping me to realize and understand God's grace at a whole new level. It is helping me to acknowledge my nothingness, and accept it...and be thankful for it. Jesus came not for people who have it altogether, but for the sick...the hurting...the needy. I am one of those people.
