What We have Been Up To 9-09

How about a picture post, to give you an idea of how we have been spending the last days of summer. We had a beautiful fall hike this weekend, that ended in the GORGEOUS lake that we are blessed enough to live by. The forest smelled like fall and everything that is good and pure in this world. I drank deeply as we walked (really deeply when I had to carry Noah UP the hills). Anyway...we go here every year to hike and every year I take the same picture with the boys. It amazes me that two short years ago Noah was in a baby sling and this year he is climbing on my back. When we made it to the beach, the boys played in the dunes and Jonathan and I stared at the beautiful coastline and discussed everything and nothing. It was beautiful.

Earlier this week the boys had their eyes tested. Since the doctor had to dilate their pupils, they had to wear these awesome sunglasses when it was time to leave. Against all planning, my mom happened to be here on Thursday and went with me to this appointment. I will spare you the details, but PRAISE THE LORD. I never would have made it without her.

And earlier this summer we went to the beach after dinner and happened to run into our neighbors. We enjoyed a beautiful night with them. Noah and their son, Aiden, are the absolute best of friends. Noah asks for "Aideee" from the first moment he wakes until the moment he shuts his eyes at night. It is awesome that he has a best friend who lives right next to us. And Landon's best friend lives directly across the street. I used to pray for a good neighborhood (bc when you buy a house, you really don't know anything about the neighbors). God most certainly gave me exceedingly and abundantly more than I asked or imagined (Eph 3:20). Not only did I find some of my dearest friends in my neighbors, but my boys have each found their best buddies.

A few weeks ago, my neighbor and I went to my dad's to take the kids for a ride on the boat. We sort of, kind of, ran out of gas on the way home (with FOUR very over tired children). As you can see from the sign below...we were surrounded by nothing but farmland. Oh yeah, and a day care sign in the shape of a cow. Seriously? Who does this? Or more importantly, who takes their kids to a cow day care center?

IMG_2139.JPGA few weeks ago a dear xanga friend, Annalee, came to visit. She has come for the past three years...and the last two years her and her husband (and adorable little boy named Judah) have come all the way from Washington state. Last year I got really sick when she was here, and she totally cooked for me. And this year, I didn't get sick, but I had stress coming out of my ears with my life, and she did it again. This girl can cook...let me tell you. One night she made us some awesome spaghetti and cheese bread and another night she made this amazing Mexican lasagna. But beyond her awesome ability to cook..the girl is just a beautiful, wonderful friend with such a giving heart. I am blessed to know her...and amazed that such a friendship could form through an avenue such as this.

And a few more random beach trips that we squeaked in amidst the cool days this summer...

And today we had a cookout at my grandma and grandpa's. The same grandparents that were in the hospital a few weeks ago. He looked really good today, and every single time I looked at him, his face was filled with joy at watching those he loves play in the pool, converse over good food...and just live life. We had a beautiful day...a perfect end to the summer, really.
