The Windy City
Before all of you Chicagoites correct me, I know that it is called the windy city becuase of the politicians of old, but it is still darn windy!!!!!!!!! Jonathan got up at 7:30 yesterday morning to walk to a pharmacy to buy cold medicine and the sign said it was ZERO degrees! Despite that, we had a very nice time...for the most part.
We left early Saturday morning, boarded the train with seriously 2 minutes to spare (due to my convincing Jonathan we DID have time to stop for bagels and coffee). Trains are not like airplanes...there is no sitting there, it pulls up, you board, it leaves...so there is like a 2 minute window. Anyway, we made it and the train was surpringly comfortable and nice. The train was delayed twice due to broken rails and the conductor actually said, "we have to go really slow so as not to derail and crash!" We all thought that was funny...it would be like if an airline pilot came over the loud speaker and said, "we have to fly lower so that we don't crash into the earth and die." Anyway, we made it safely. We had the afternoon Saturday to do whatever we wanted (Jonathan and I shopped a little..bought nothing...had a nice lunch with one of his coworkers and wife and took a nap in the hotel. That evening his company took us out to a very nice dinner. There were probably 20-25 of us on the trip and the bill was over $800 dollars. I cannot even fathom how much the company spent on this trip! The hotel was an Embassy Suites which was very nice! Anyway, after dinner we went to a comedy club. Jonathan and I had never been to one before...and never will we go again. The show was the most raunchy, blasphemous, disgusting, thing we have ever seen. They chose every single conservative person and thing on the face of the earth to make fun of...including Fox news and Bill O-Reilly. I will spare you the details...but it was horrible. And the amount of alcohol consumed in that place should seriously be outlawed. It was a dark, dark place.
Anyway, Sunday morning we got up and went down to our free made to order breakfast by about 9:00 (the rest of the group got down there wayyy later considering how they drank the night before and a lot of them went out to a bar after the show...don't ask me how they could possibly fit any more liquid into their bodies). We had the day free to do what we wanted but I wasn't feeling that great and it was seriously freezing so we stayed in the hotel for awhile then went to Starbucks and chatted for an hour and finally met the group at Giordano's at 2. I had the best pizza ever...but bc my stomach is so small I could only eat a piece. On teh way to the train station Jonathan gave our pizza to a homeless man, so there went my dinner
Oh well...I am sure the man needed it way more than I did! We got in about 10pm last night.

Overall we had a wonderful time together, but seriously felt the dramatic difference between the culture that his co-workers live in and the life we lead. I thought it interesting that one of the women kept jokingly referring to Jonathan as the straight and narrow guy, picking on him really. Her comments made me so proud of him though. I am so glad that they can see a difference in him, now I am praying they can find out why! Anyway, it was a free weekend and it was relaxing and Jonathan and I got two whole days to spend together away from responsibilities. It was wonderful!
