Niagara Falls 7-14-08

The trip was beautiful, on most accounts. We left Thursday and drove to Jon's grandparents house. Grandma made us a wonderful dinner and we had strawberry shortcake (my favorite!) with his cousins and aunt and uncle. I got to see Jon's cousin's kids (a new little guy who was 4 weeks and a little girl who is Noahs age...beautiful kiddos). Then we went out on their (aunt and uncle's) beautiful lake for a pontoon ride. Relaxing and beautiful. On the way back, Jon drove bc Grandpa can't see in the dark. It was quite the ride with Grandpa directing in the back and Jon driving (along with using their new navigation system for the first time). Pretty comical, but you had to be there. They sent us off the next morning with a beautiful breakfast of blueberry pancakes!

We made it to Niagara by 3ish. They offered to upgrade our room to a fallsview room, for a slight fee. We went up to look at the "upgrade"...it was basically a LARGE concrete parking garage with a view of the mist in the background. We politely declined. Every question we had our entire stay, we were directed to Peter at the information desk. The only problem was that the tried to sell us on a ridiculous attraction package...every single time we went there with a question. The other bad thing...Niagara is a major tourist trap. They make you pay for parking (everytime you take your car out), so we walked and walked and walked...EVERYWHERE. For dinner both nights we ate on an outside patio and split a wood-fired pizza. This was the most economical choice...really the only one. But we loved it. Relaxed...ate...no one else to feed, no whining, no crying, no wanting out of a high chair. Just us. Beautiful.

Lets see...the first day there we went on the Maid of the Mist, which is the boat that takes you to the horseshoe falls. I HIGHLY recommend this. It was worth every penny. You do get quite wet, despite the poncho they give you, but it was awesome. The next day we went to Niagara on the Lake and walked around. This is a super cute town on Lake Ontario. We really labored over the decision to go or not bc it would cost $10 to get our car out of parking. In the end, we decided to go. We were glad we did...until we found a $15 parking ticket on our windshield at Niagara-on-the Lake. Apparently, centrally located among like 3 blocks is ONE parking meter for all cars. Lovely. This little day trip now cost $25. But oh well...we went back and walked down to do the Journey of the Falls. But it started raining by the time we got down there, so we ran back (about a mile)...up hill. We were soaked all the way to the skin. This was kind of romantic...it was that kind of rain that falls straight down...hard. But when I got to the hotel room and realized that I had only brought one pair of shoes and one certain undergarment (that was now wet through) it wasn't so romantic anymore . I dried both the shoes and the undergarment with a hair dryer and we went off for our nightly pizza. From there we literally RAN to Journey under the Falls, because they were about to close. That too was pretty awesome. You get to go into these caves that run under the falls and you can almost touch them...and you get very wet, if you want to. Jon was soaked to the bone, but he loved it! From there we walked around, had coffee and dessert. There is a casino centrally located to everything, so we walked through there quite often to get to our hotel. If you are under 19, you are not allowed in. I was carded...almost every time. I loved it. I know I don't look 19 anymore, but still...it made me feel good bc inside...I still feel 20ish (ok...so I am only 27...but lately I have been feeling a tad frumpy). Anyway....

We had a really great time, just being together...alone. I am so thankful that my mom could watch the kids and that we could enjoy this time away. It really didn't matter what we did or when, we just enjoyed the freedom and the quiet of each other. Here are pictures...I took lots for your viewing pleasure.

I feel as though we have been so busy lately. I am ready for normal life to resume...trips to the beach, afternoons on the slip-n-slide. I feel like summer is slipping by. Yikes! I love it so much I don't want it to end!!! So off to enjoy the gorgeous weather!
