Our Weekend 9-25-08

hikes 007hikes 001Ya all know how much I love summer...and fall brings with it some anxiety because I HATE winter. And you never know with fall...it is either gorgeous or cold and rainy, total toss up. So with each gorgeous day that we have, I really try to milk it for all that it is worth, not knowing when the cold is going to set in and all of this is going to be over. So...

A few months back we bought bikes. We thought it would be a great activity for all of us to enjoy. I didn't get a picture of Landon and Jon, but their get-up is so super cute. Landon has a tag-a-long bike that connects to Jon's and Noah has a seat on the back of my bike. I looked long and hard for nice, but discounted bikes, and I put a ton of effort into finding the right fit for our kids (the tag-along and seat versus a burley). Anyway...we have been riding a few times a week and have loved it. We have done all of the trails near our house numerous times, but for this year, we just can't afford a bike rack. Next summer though, we want one and we can go to the trails by the lake...they are gorgeous and there are TONS of them. Super fun.

We also did some hiking this weekend. The first night we went on a trail near our house and the next day we went to a place called Rosy Mound. We went there last year...it is so gorgeous. The trail winds through a hilly forest and comes out into the sand dunes, which eventually lead you to Lake Michigan. So after a long hike, the boys were able to play in the water and cool off a bit. We love to hike, but again, didn't have the money for a back riding thing for Noah, so we just decided to try and carry him and see how it went. Between us trading off a few times throughout the trail and Noah walking (which he loves to do) it worked really well. He can even keep up fairly well. It is so so so precious to see him running as fast as he can to keep up with the leader...Landon.

The weather has been gorgous here...near 80 and sunny nearly every day. Awesome fall weather. The boys have had colds, which haven't interfered with life much at all. But I sent Landon to school today and kind of got indirectly reprimanded by his teacher becuase I guess he blew his nose a lot this morning? I told her that I didn't know she wouldn't want him there...he has no fever, no cough...just a runny nose. Oh well...guess he will be missing half the winter if he can't go to school with a runny nose Other than that...school has been going great. He seems to like it (as much as Landon ever will...he is kind of a home body) and I am enjoying the few hours to run errands, etc.

We are going to the beach tonight for one last hurrah. And out for ice cream. We haven't done either for quite some time, so we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and go one more time. My heart is sad that we won't be back there for 7 more months. Did I mention that I hate winter?

I want to go to xangapalooza this weekend...but I can't do 10 hours in the car in one day with two kids. I am trying to leave Noah at home, but coming up with empty options. So my answer...I am still working on it. But I want to come!
